Religious Education Award - Gold

In February 2023, the school was assessed at the highest level, Gold, for the work it is committed to in RE.

Here are a few sections of the report that have been copied for your information:

This community school has recently embraced new ways of working with RE, and they are clearly impacting the whole school curriculum.

The subject leader’s passion for RE shines through and has driven the changes. She has redesigned / reworked the new RE curriculum using experience and skills gained from working in other schools. With increasing confidence, she has initiated her own local NATRE group, so that other local teachers are benefiting from the inspiration.

In-school systems are tight and well thought out with SMT, so colleagues are well-supported and all are on board with the recent changes, enlivening RE teaching. The children speak articulately about religious and non-religious worldviews and the positive way that RE connects with other subjects, thereby giving them moral values to live by.

Talking firstly to the children to hear Pupil Voice, set the tone for the rest of the conversation, as they came across as young ambassadors for RE, clearly sparked off by their RE curriculum.

As a community school in a deprived area, Priory has much to offer as a beacon for other schools, near and far, in both faith and community settings. The Head Girl pre-recorded a short video tour of her school for the assessor in advance, as an introduction to her school.
