Laches Wood Residential visit

Laches Wood Blog

If you are a parent and do not want your child's photo on the school website, please contact the school and let them know.

Day 1

Arriving at Laches Wood was exciting, the children were surprised to find that they were expected to cover their duvets and make their own beds.

The day's activities have been amazing. The children all experienced the high ropes. All children managed to climb the tower and most could jump off. We had a few nerves but in all the children had fun.

Later in the evening, after their tea, they went on a scavenger hunt looking for a range of items.

All in all, it has been a good day, the evening has been interesting, a few tears but the children were able to get to sleep.

Tomorrow we will be on the canals learning. how to paddle in a canoe! See you tomorrow.

Day 2

The children have been up since 5:00, they have been sorting out beds and getting changed for today's activities. They are all looking forward to today's lovely breakfast.

This morning it was our turn to have a go at canoeing on the local waterways. It has been brilliant! The children had to team up in groups of four, some children were reluctant at the start but by the end, they had overcome their fears and were happy to be in the boats. We learned how to paddle in a straight line, turn in a full circle and paddle backwards. Our final mission was to stand up in the boats and step into another boat, which was very scary. Unfortunately, some of the children fell into the water, they were all safe as they found that the water was only up to their waste deep.

Later in the afternoon, we ventured out on BMX bikes learning how to control them as well as going down steps, over a wooden straight course and finally onto the BMX course which had twists and turns. There were a few children who could not ride bikes, by the end of the session most of these children had attempted the full BMX course riding their bikes.

Next, we went on to caving, this was a scary experience. We had to go through a series of caves, managing our way around the twists and bends. There were a few small drops and an area where we had to go through a ball pit. This was a scary one-time experience.

Tomorrow, we are looking forward to axe throwing, and archery and the second group turn to go biking and caving. See you tomorrow.

On the first day (Monday 1st July), the computer suite will be open from 8:30 am for children to leave luggage. Children must then go to their normal class at 8:45 am. Children will be registered in their classroom and then brought to the main hall.

At 9:30 am, children will start to make their way to board the coach, please DO NOT wait inside the school's main reception area, as it is busy in the morning.

What time will my child need to be in school?

Your child will need to be in school as normal. We aim to leave between 9:40 - 9:50, this all depends on all parents bringing their children on time.

Where does my child need to go with their luggage in the morning?

In the morning, from 8:30 am, your child will need to bring their baggage to the computer suite, near the main reception, teachers will be waiting to support you. The children will be registered in their normal classrooms.

Does my child need to wear a school uniform on the first day?

Children will not be required to wear school uniform. Please ensure that they are wearing suitable clothes and footwear as the first session will begin as soon as they arrive.

What time will my child return back to school on Wednesday 3rd June?

We plan to leave Laches Wood at 1:30 pm, typically this would mean that we will be back in school by 2:30. If there are delays, the school will either text or send a message on Schoolcomms, please do not call the school asking for arrival times.

Will my child need any money?

Your child will have been given a form to complete with items that they would like to buy. We recommend a maximum spend of £5. Only items that have been ordered will be available for children.

What will the bedrooms be like?

There will be a split area for boys and girls separated by a partition. Teachers will be within the same floor as the children in case of emergencies.

Can my child take games and toys?

We kindly request that children do not bring with them any type of electronic device as school insurance will not cover any loss or damage to their equipment. If they would like to bring a reading book then this would be suitable, there will be lots of activities available for your child during their stay.
